🎣 Fishing Smith Family Park Pond – A Local Favorite for Utah Anglers

Smith Family Park Pond in Farr West, Utah, has become one of my favorite quick stops for trout fishing — especially when Willard Bay isn’t producing. As one of Utah’s designated community fisheries, it’s stocked regularly with rainbow trout and offers an easy, family-friendly spot to relax, unwind, and catch a few fish.

Because it’s a community fishery, the daily limit is two fish per angler, so it’s a great place to bring kids or test out new tackle without overharvesting.

🐟 My Latest Trip

On my most recent visit, my brother and I set up along the bank and found the trout willing to bite on Garlic PowerBait and a white Sakana mini tube tipped with pink PowerEggs. The pond can be a bit uneven along the shoreline, so I brought a camp chair and fished sitting down while my leg continues to heal — and it turned out to be the perfect setup for a calm morning.

After a few solid catches, I took one home for a simple catch and cook. Nothing fancy — just seasoned with garlic, oregano, parsley, butter, and salt. Simple ingredients, but the results were delicious.

🎣 A Look Back

A few years ago, I also fished this same pond shortly after it had been stocked. Back then, Kastmasters and inline spinners were the hot baits, and I released everything I caught. That older video even includes a bonus catfish from the Willard Bay South Marina, only a few miles away — proof that if the bay bite slows down, Smith Family Pond is a great backup plan.

💬 Why I Keep Coming Back

Smith Family Park Pond might not be huge, but it’s one of those dependable spots that always seems to offer a fun session — whether you’re fishing with kids, testing new baits, or just taking a break from the big water at Willard Bay. For northern Utah anglers, it’s definitely worth keeping on your list — especially right after a fresh stocking.

🎣 Tackle I Use:

  • Sakana Baits – Utah-based soft plastics that work great for trout, bass, and panfish.
  • SI Flies (Simcoe Bugs) – Hand-tied, fish-tested flies that consistently get bites.
