Ice Fishing 2025: Scofield, Mantua & Strawberry Reservoirs

Utah’s ice fishing season never disappoints, and 2025 was no exception! This winter I made it out on three memorable trips—starting the year off at Scofield Reservoir, then heading to Mantua in late February, and wrapping things up with an early March outing at Strawberry Reservoir.

Each of these lakes offered a different experience: from fast trout action at Scofield to panfish and perch at Mantua, and finally, the hard-fighting cutthroat at Strawberry. These are some of my favorite ice trips I’ve ever filmed, and I’m excited to share the full videos below.

Chasing Bonneville Whitefish at Bear Lake (December Fishing Report) December fishing in Utah often means cold hands, quiet shorelines, and surprisingly active fish—especially at Bear Lake . On this trip, I headed north to target one of the lake’s most unique species: the Bonneville Whitefish . Unlike many fish that move deep as winter approaches, Bonneville Whitefish begin moving shallow in late fall and early winter to spawn. This makes December one of the best times of year to encounter them from shore or in shallow water.
